Team India needs to improve its Test record away from home: Nasser Hussain
London (IANS). Former England captain Nasser Hussain has identified the area where Team India needs to improve if they are to improve on their Test record away from home and claim the ICC World Test Championship title for the first time this cycle. Is.
While India reached the recent final of the ICC World Test Championship on the back of some big successes on home soil, their form away from the subcontinent remains a matter of concern for Hussain.
India recently beat West Indies 1-0 in the Caribbean and played some fine cricket in Bangladesh late last year to make it to the World Test Championship final for the first time, but those two series apart from home for Rohit Sharma’s men Outside results have been mixed.
Hussain believes that the right mix of players is in place to continue India’s prosperity when playing on home turf.
“At home they are brilliant… and at home their balance is amazing,” Hussain said in a recent episode of ICC Review.
“They’ve got senior players like Rohit and obviously Virat (Kohli) and they’re just world-class players and they’ve got young players coming in like Shubman (Gill) who are going to be superstars.”
“If Jasprit (Bumrah) can also come back, he is one of the great multi-format bowlers at the moment, if not the best, when he is fit. So, they have those senior players and youngsters, and with the ball Also in India, they are three all-rounders, and they are genuine all-rounders in India – Akshar (Patel), (Ravindra) Jadeja and (Ravichandran) Ashwin. For me, it is a really balanced team.”
But it is the balance of India’s team away from home that remains a question mark for Hussain and this was evident when they were beaten by Australia in the second edition of the World Test Championship final in June.
Hussain knows that India’s middle-order will be strengthened if wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is fully fit, but the lack of a seam bowler who can also bat is a constant concern for the respected commentator.
“I was traveling a lot with Ricky (Ponting) during the Ashes and he was messaging Rishabh and Rishabh was in the gym and he was getting updates,” Hussain said.
“He is missing a lot at the moment and hopefully he will be back.
“It’s away from home and the balance of the team and if they can get a seam bowling all-rounder. Hardik (Pandya) would have been right if Hardik stayed fit and continued that process.”
And while Hussain may be concerned to some extent about India’s middle-order structure, he has no equal concerns for his top-order and believes young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is on course to have the best of his Test career. Well prepared to push the start.
Hussain said, “From what I have seen…he has made a great start. You talk to people who have seen him in the IPL, he seems to have the technique and the mindset.”
“Like most young Indian players, and especially batsmen, most of them come in and find immediate success. And it’s a good sign for first-class cricket, that they are producing, not just for the IPL. have been
“I’ve seen a lot of young Indian batsmen coming up and I look at them and think, technically they look very talented because they grew up watching Rohit or watching Virat or before, you know, Virat Have seen Sachin (Tendulkar) and Sachin has seen Sunil (Gavaskar).”
