NEC funding accelerates development in Arunachal, benefits several projects

Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh received significant support from the North Eastern Council (NEC) last year, with funding to improve healthcare, roads, tourism, and livelihoods.
In December 2025, the NEC provided ₹42.4 million for critical projects, including a nursing hostel at the District Hospital in Yingkiong (Upper Siang), a maternity and child care center in Miao (Changlang), and the development of the Tissa View Point near Tissa Camp (Tirap).
These initiatives aim to strengthen healthcare services while promoting tourism in the region.
To enhance connectivity, the NEC released ₹135 million under the NESIDS-Roads Scheme for critical road projects. These include the 21-km Murung Gika-Panior road in Papum Pare district and the Bana EAC-Richukrong road in East Kameng.
These upgrades are expected to benefit approximately 19,500 people in 15 villages by improving access to remote and administrative areas.
A livelihood project worth ₹26 million (approximately $1.6 billion) supported returning migrant workers by providing skill development and self-employment opportunities. This initiative helps people earn sustainable incomes locally, reducing distress migration and strengthening the post-pandemic economy.
In the education and youth sector, students from Arunachal Pradesh participated in the NE-SPARKS program and visited Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) centers in Bengaluru.
This program introduces students to India’s space science ecosystem, promoting STEM education and careers in science and technology.
In December 2025, the NEC distributed a total of ₹767.8 million (approximately $1.7 billion) across the Northeast to support infrastructure, education, livelihoods, culture, research, and innovation.
The Centre’s funding aims to support inclusive development and promote balanced growth in Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast.
