Telangana: ₹40-crore State Organ Transplant Centre and Mother Milk Bank inaugurated at Gandhi Hospital.

HYDERABAD: A Rs 40-crore state organ transplant centre and a Mother Milk Bank were inaugurated at Gandhi Hospital on Friday, as the government expanded advanced treatment and neonatal support facilities.

Health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha reviewed the new transplant centre, where doctors explained the functioning of its departments. The facility has six modular operation theatres, three ICUs with 25 beds, and an isolation ward.

“This surgery, which would normally cost lakhs, was carried out free in a government hospital,” he said, referring to a recent liver transplant performed on an 18-month-old child at Osmania Hospital. He later felicitated Dr. Madhusudan for the procedure.

The minister met a couple at the Gandhi IVF Centre who had twins after treatment there. He said another transplant centre is coming up at TIMS, Sanathnagar, and organ retrieval centres are planned in seven government hospitals. A Mother Milk Bank will support newborns in a hospital that sees 30 to 40 deliveries a day.

Addressing MBBS graduates of Gandhi Medical College, he said, “The medical field is not just a job; it is a lifelong commitment to human service.” He added, “Your knowledge can cure disease, but compassion can heal a person completely.”
