Telangana: 387 hostels inspected for food safety violations

Hyderabad: A total of 387 hostels were inspected and notices were issued in the last two months based on food safety violations. Food safety teams in conjunction with ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ vehicles conducted these checks in private and government hostels across the state of Telangana. Expired, insect-infested food items and other food safety violations were found at Lulu Hypermarket in Hyderabad. Since most of the hostels were found to be operating without the required FSSAI license/registration, the Food Safety Department has directed the hostel operators to obtain licenses and follow FSSAI rules and regulations.

In addition, unhygienic practices were also found in food preparation and storage. “The concerned FBOs have been made aware of the statutory requirement of the FSS Act, 2006 and directed to immediately apply for the license. The FBOs have been informed about the mandatory procedures as well as good practices in food preparation and storage as per the Food Safety Rules and Regulations, 2011,” the tweet issued by the department said. For any guidance regarding FSS Act and FOSTAC training, the concerned Food Safety Officer can be contacted.
