Telangana: Chief Minister ready to visit Indraveli first after Revanth massacre

Adilabad: Indraveli of Adilabad district is going to witness a rare incident. For the first time after the bloody massacre of 1981, a Chief Minister will visit the village.

According to unofficial sources, on the fateful day of April 20, 1981, more than 40 tribals were shot dead by the police while they were agitating for their rights. However, officials put the death toll at 13.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is all set to visit Indravelli, lay the foundation stone of ‘Smruthivanam’ in an acre area and offer prayers at the Nagoba temple in Kesalapur.

Revanth Reddy is likely to visit Indraveli on January 28 or 29. He will address his first public meeting there after becoming the Chief Minister. It will also mark the beginning of the election campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Revanth Reddy is emotional about Indraveli. He believes that if he starts any work here, he will be successful. He started the campaign for the assembly elections from here and became the Chief Minister. Then he had promised to construct ‘Smritivanam’ after coming to power.

Last month, on the instructions of the state government, district officials along with mandal level officials visited Indraveli village and inspected the place. He organized a gram sabha where he passed a resolution for the construction of ‘Smruthivanam’ and sent it to the state government.

An attempt was made to build a memorial after the Indraveli massacre but the then AP government did not give permission. In 2016, the High Court had issued an order allowing a limited number of people to pay tribute to the martyrs. Due to this, more people came to the village and paid tribute.
