Telangana: Government launches scheme to strengthen water supply in urban local bodies
Hyderabad: As part of the water supply service improvement plan and strengthening of underground sewerage systems in urban local bodies (ULBs) across the state, the government has initiated the process of strengthening the water supply system and essential infrastructure in 98 ULBs. . Sewerage projects covering three packages in nine major ULBs at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 3,516.64 crore.
The water supply and sewerage project will include construction of components like Elevated Level Service Surface Reservoir (ELSR), Ground Level Service Surface Reservoir (GLSR), Over Head Service Reservoir (OHSR), Ground Level Balancing Reservoir (GLBR). Enhanced Ground Level Balancing Reservoir (ELBR), sump, pump house, pump set, treatment plant, etc. These works will be carried out through the Telangana Public Health and Municipal Engineering Department for which it has invited bids. The completion period is approximately two years and the defects liability period will be five years.
These projects will be started in three phases. Package-I, costing Rs 1,110.55 crore, includes supply projects in 30 ULBs and three sewerage projects. Package-II will cover water supply projects in 26 ULBs and four sewerage projects at an estimated cost of Rs 1,135.32 crore and Package-III at an estimated cost of Rs 1,270.59 crore will cover water supply projects in 42 ULBs and two sewerage projects. It will be launched under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, which aims to provide every household with access to a tap with a guaranteed supply of water and sewer connection.
Officials said that under AMRUT 2.0 every household is to be covered with tap connection and hence the coverage benchmark is 100 per cent. Sub-benchmarks include home service connection, coverage of distribution network, adequacy of storage capacity as ELSR, GLSR as per Central Public Health and Environment Engineering Organization (CPHEEO) guidelines and adequacy of trunk mains and feeder mains. ,
