Tenders worth Rs 2,000 crore from the last phase of the DMK government were put on hold: Minister

Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu’s Energy Resources and Law Minister C.T.R. Nirmalkumar has stated that tenders worth approximately ₹2,000 crore issued during the last phase of the previous DMK regime have been put on hold. He made this statement during an event held in Chennai on Saturday. The statement was made at the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Engineers’ Association, held at the Anna Kalaiyaranga in Sethupattu.
Minister C.T.R. Nirmalkumar attended the event as a special guest and also inaugurated the event. A large number of electricity department engineers and association members were present. During the event, the achievements and challenges facing the state’s power sector were discussed.
In his address, the Minister stated that effective state administration can only be achieved when both the government and its administrative machinery function well. He emphasized that good governance requires strong coordination between the government and departments, and a transparent decision-making process.
The Minister further stated that continuous reforms are being undertaken to improve the administrative system in the state. He also stated that the government’s objective is to ensure that all departments provide better services to the public and that development projects are completed on time. He described the role of the Electricity Department as crucial and praised the contributions of engineers.
In his statement, he cited tenders worth approximately ₹2,000 crore issued during the last days of the previous government, stating that these have been put on hold. While he did not elaborate on the reasons for this decision, he indicated that the move was made after an administrative review.
The Minister also emphasized the role of public sector companies. He stated that the Chief Minister has assured that public sector companies will continue to function as public sector entities. He stated that these companies play a vital role in the state’s development and the operation of basic services, and therefore, it is important to maintain them strong and effective.
He also stated that public sector undertakings need to be run with greater accountability and transparency, ensuring better public services and improved administrative processes.
Officers and members of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board Engineers Association were also present at the event. The organization’s 80-year journey, achievements, and contributions to the power sector were discussed. The engineers shared their experiences and presented their views on future challenges.
At the end of the event, the Minister stated that the state government is continuously working to strengthen the power sector and that several reform measures will be taken in the future. He assured that the problems faced by the electricity department and its employees will be addressed and necessary reforms will be implemented.
Administrative reforms, the role of the public sector, and the development of the electricity department were specifically discussed throughout the event.
