The ₹40 crore Gudiyatham district government hospital awaits inauguration: public protests

Tamil Nadu: Fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of Gudiyatham, the public is eagerly awaiting the opening of the District Government Headquarters Hospital, built at a cost of ₹40 crore and equipped with all the necessary facilities.

People from Gudiyatham town, Unguram, Bharatarami, K.V. Kuppam, Melpatti, Pallikonda, Madanur, and surrounding villages are receiving treatment at the Gudiyatham Government Hospital. Most of the people in the above-mentioned areas are engaged in beedi, matchstick, weaving, and farming.

For many years, there had been a demand to expand this hospital. Consequently, the hospital was upgraded to the Vellore District Government Headquarters Hospital. Following this, the Tamil Nadu government provided ₹40 crore for the construction of a new building with all the facilities.

Following construction work carried out over the past few years, a new building spanning 9,408 square meters, consisting of a ground floor and five floors, has been completed with elevator access. It houses units for all medical conditions, as well as specialized wards, including a burn treatment ward, a poison treatment ward, and a fracture ward.

With construction completed six months ago, the wards have been equipped with beds, medical equipment, testing equipment, labs, operating theater equipment, and scanning machines.

Since some existing wards were demolished to make way for the new building, doctors have been unable to find adequate space to treat patients. Consequently, the demand for the hospital to be opened for public use has intensified.

Hospital officials said about the opening of the new hospital: A few months ago, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the Government Penland Hospital in Vellore, built at a cost of ₹198 crore. When construction work wasn’t completed, the AIADMK protested, claiming the Chief Minister had inaugurated a hospital lacking adequate facilities. Subsequently, the hospital was provided with all the necessary facilities. Consequently, the inauguration ceremony for the newly built Gudiyatham Government Hospital has been postponed, with verbal orders to open only after all work is 100% complete.

New Lab for ₹1 Crore: Meanwhile, the Central Government has allocated ₹1 crore to build a lab equipped with modern technology at Gudiyatham Government Hospital. Work is nearing completion.

With all work at Gudiyatham Government Hospital complete, the process of hiring doctors, nurses, lab technicians, and other staff is in its final stages.

He stated that since the aforementioned work will be completed soon, the hospital building will be opened within a few weeks. Whatever the reason, there is a general consensus among the public that the hospital should be opened soon.
