The Army and IAF have been deployed to extinguish a forest fire in a remote area of Arunachal

Guwahati: A wildfire that had been burning for nearly a week near Kaho village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district has been successfully extinguished by the Indian Army, officials confirmed on Friday (January 30, 2026).
The Spear Corps of the Army reported that the fire had erupted along the western ridge of the Lohit River, close to the Sino-India border.
“In a coordinated operation, the Spear Corps, with support from the Indian Air Force, acted swiftly to contain the blaze, ensuring that civilian lives and property were unharmed,” said Army officials.
A senior police officer stated that the fire originated across the LAC on January 21 and spread into Indian territory on January 27, affecting areas including Kaho, Sheru, and Madan Ridge.
He added that the cause of the wildfire remains unknown, and approximately 4.5 lakh square metres of land were destroyed.
In a separate incident, the Army also managed to control another wildfire at Tongkorla in Mechukha, located in Shi-Yomi district, a Defence official said.
Lt. Col. Mahendra Rawat, Defence PRO, explained that following a landowner’s request for help, a rapid response team carried out firefighting operations under challenging terrain and weather conditions.
The team successfully managed to control the fire, preventing harm to residents, buildings, and local forests.
