Gopalganj: In Bihar, a state where the sale of liquor is prohibited, the festival season often witnesses a surge in the activities of liquor smugglers who employ innovative tactics to carry out their trade. A recent incident in the Barauli police station area of Gopalganj district highlights this issue, as the police seized 30 liters of illicit liquor from a street vendor.
Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended a vendor who was suspected of using the guise of selling clothes to smuggle liquor. Upon inspecting the bundle of clothes attached to his motorcycle, the police made a startling discovery. Hidden within a separate compartment were bottles of liquor.
Sub-divisional police officer Pranjal confirmed the arrest of the vendor, identified as Shahabuddin Ali, a resident of Chandan Tola. A total of 30 liters of liquor and Rs 15,000 in cash were confiscated during the operation. The police are currently conducting an investigation with the detainee.
