The Vande Bharat sleeper train has started its commercial run from Kamakhya to Howrah
Guwahati: The semi high-speed Vande Bharat Sleeper train commenced its commercial operations on January 22, 2026, with its maiden run from Kamakhya railway station to Howrah.
Passengers on the inaugural journey welcomed the launch of the premium service, expressing satisfaction with the travel experience. At Kamakhya station, railway personnel greeted passengers on board with roses to mark the occasion.
Railway officials said all seats on the inaugural service were booked within a few hours of the opening of ticket reservations through the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and other platforms, indicating strong public response. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on January 17, 2026.
Passengers appreciated the quality of bedrolls, the variety and standard of food served on board, and the cleanliness maintained during the journey. Several travellers also commended the prompt response of train staff and described the service as a positive outcome of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Some passengers emphasised the need for collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene during travel.
The return service of the train from Howrah will begin operations from January 23, 2026. According to officials, passengers on the return journey will be served Assamese and Bengali cuisine, prepared by a caterer engaged through IRCTC, along with premium-quality bedrolls.
