There are 1.5 lakh Sikh drivers in America.. Punjabis are the target of the Department of Transportation

It is said that there are about 1.5 lakh Sikh truck drivers in America. However, in the wake of the recent increase in road accidents in that country, the transport department there is taking tough decisions. The immigration department is also checking the background of truck drivers. A large percentage of Punjabi youth who are going to settle in America are becoming truck drivers. It is said that about 40 percent of Punjabis are truck drivers in the West Coast region of America. It is estimated that Sikh drivers are about 20 percent across the country. However, with the government strictly scanning the drivers, the situation of Sikh drivers has become unpredictable.
The Department of Transportation is reportedly considering revoking the certification of about 3,000 driving schools across the country. The decision is likely to be made in the next 30 days due to lack of training facilities. 4,500 schools have been warned. The government has put special focus on driving schools run by migrant workers in California. The Department of Transportation has started inspections to determine whether truck drivers are qualified and competent to obtain commercial licenses. If driving schools do not provide training that meets standards, then the future of many Sikh drivers could be in jeopardy. The government has announced that it is cancelling the licenses of approximately three thousand schools that do not meet adequate standards of education.
The recent road accidents in Florida and California involving Sikh drivers have prompted the US Department of Transportation to put Punjabis under surveillance.
