Punjab: Centre Increases Commission for Commission Agents and Cooperative Societies

Punjab: The Central Government has revised the commission rates payable to Arhtiyas (commission agents) and cooperative societies involved in the procurement of wheat and paddy. These new rates will come into effect starting from the Rabi season of 2026-27. According to the government, the commission for Arhtiyas procuring wheat in Punjab and Haryana has been increased from ₹46 per quintal to ₹50.75 per quintal. In Rajasthan, this rate has been raised from ₹41.40 per quintal to ₹45.67 per quintal. For paddy procurement, the commission payable to Arhtiyas has been increased from ₹45.88 per quintal to ₹50.61 per quintal.

The commission rates payable to cooperative societies have also been revised. For wheat procurement, this rate has been increased from ₹27 per quintal to ₹29.79 per quintal, while for paddy, it has been raised from ₹32 per quintal to ₹35.30 per quintal. The government stated that this revision was implemented based on the recommendations of a sub-committee comprising representatives from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), state governments, and the Department of Food and Public Distribution. For procurement conducted at modern silos (storage facilities), the commission rate will remain in accordance with the existing policy; specifically, it will be 50 percent of the rate applicable in the Mandis (markets). This move is significant because the majority of wheat and paddy procurement operations in Punjab and Haryana are conducted through Arhtiyas.
