Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia is facing charges of having disproportionate assets worth around Rs 700 crore. A Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta issued the bail order on Monday. The Supreme Court said that the accused is being granted bail keeping in mind the background of the case, investigation and other factors.
An FIR was registered against Bikram Singh in June 2025 by the SIT in connection with the disproportionate assets case. He was immediately arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) police from his house in Amritsar. Since then, he has been in judicial custody in New Nabha Jail. Bikram Singh had earlier filed a bail petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court that heard the case dismissed the bail petition. Later, he approached the Supreme Court, which granted him bail.
On the other hand, the police had filed a 40,000-page chargesheet in this case last August along with supplementary files. Majithia from Punjab won as an MLA from the Shiromani Akali Dal and also served as a cabinet minister. During this time, he was accused of corruption. The Punjab Vigilance is investigating the allegations that he and his wife together committed hundreds of crores of corruption between 2007-2017.
