Mumbai: After leading the Indian team to its first Test win against Australia on Sunday, captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that her hard work for so many years has finally paid off.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Kaur gave all the credit to the support staff, bowling coach and batting coach for the first Test win against Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

“This is a reward for all the hard work we have done over the years. The credit for this goes to all our support staff, especially our bowling coach and batting coach. We tried to keep things very simple. This is the reward for all our hard work.” All patience,” Kaur said.

The batting all-rounder said that before facing Australia for the longer format match, he thought about playing “positive cricket”, which helped him during the game.
He said that he needs to stay in the moment and not go back to playing defensive cricket.

“We thought if we can play some positive cricket, it can really help us. We’ve been playing with this group for so many years and if we can do a little bit here and there. We kept Richa up there, we know how she can bat, if she is there she can hurt the game, that’s why we have kept her there. We didn’t want to go back to defensive cricket. We needed to live in the moment,” she said.

Talking about the second innings, the captain said that the partnership between Tahlia McGrath and Ellyse Perry helped put up a good score on the scoreboard.

He further added, “In the second innings, partnerships helped them put up a good score on the board. We showed confidence in our bowling unit and our support staff asked me to bowl and I got important wickets at that time.”

During Australia’s second innings, Harmanpreet took two important wickets by dismissing Alyssa Healy and McGrath. His wickets helped India dominate the match.
