Her parents returned to India seven years ago and settled in Sakleshpur, where they bought a coffee estate. Meanwhile, Urmila, a BBA graduate from Carnegie Mellon University, moved to Australia.

By then, Urmila, a player since childhood, had worked with the Qatar Tennis Federation for three years. In Australia, he first worked with the Adelaide cricket team for about three years. Later, she was moved to the Australian women’s cricket team as the team manager. During the last Football World Cup, he took a break from cricket and managed a football stadium in Qatar for four months. Upon his return to Australia from Qatar in September this year, he was asked to take charge of the Australian men’s cricket team for the World Cup. cup.

Her father Valentine said that she had only gone with the men’s team for the World Cup and that she would soon rejoin the women’s cricket team and accompany them on their tour of India in December. Urmila’s journey in the sports world is quite interesting. As a student, she focused on basketball, tennis, rowing and bungee jumping, but never thought she would be so closely associated with cricket, Valentine says with a laugh.

Valentine feels it is strange that Cricket Australia took her into the national women’s cricket team almost four years ago, even though she was non-Australian and held an Indian passport at the time.

On his World Cup assignment, Valentine says that he may have been selected because he had successfully managed the women’s team and his knowledge of India and its languages. She can speak Hindi, Kannada and Konkani.

His parents watched Australia’s matches against Pakistan and Bangladesh in Bengaluru and Pune respectively. “We wanted to watch the final, but unfortunately we couldn’t leave the estate,” Ivy said. In March this year, Urmila visited her parents and worked with her father in the estate.
