Three water treatment plants closed in Delhi: Kejriwal

New Delhi, (IANS). Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said his government has decided to close three water treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla due to the rising water level of the Yamuna river, which will lead to water problems in some areas.

In a tweet, he said, “Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla water treatment plants are being closed due to rising water level in Yamuna river. As a result, there will be water shortage in some areas of Delhi.” Yamuna’s water has reduced, we will try to start them as soon as possible.

Earlier, the Delhi government had also ordered the closure of all educational institutions in the flood-affected areas.

Till Thursday morning, the water level of Yamuna was 208.46 metres, which is much above the danger mark of 205.33 metres.

Earlier, the chief minister appealed to “all volunteers, corporators, MLAs and all others to visit the relief camps and provide all possible help”.

Due to rising water level, the areas around the river are getting submerged, due to which people have to migrate.

Delhi government sources said they have evacuated 16,000 people to relief camps.
