Thug couple arrested for demanding Indian notes in exchange for dollars
Dhamtari. Dhamtari Police has arrested a couple resident of Lajpat Nagar, Delhi for cheating by going to shops by pretending to be foreign citizens of Saudi Arabia and taking Indian notes in exchange for dollars. Women played the main role in committing fraud. This type of fraud has been committed in other states of the country. A similar crime is registered in Katni (MP).
Police said that on September 20, 2023, an unknown woman and man reached Shravan Sahu’s rod-cement shop in a car in village Mohandi of Magarlod police station area of Dhamtari district. He himself said to be a foreign citizen from Saudi Arabia. Betrayed to give 2000 rupees of dollars in exchange of 500 rupees Indian currency note. Hearing his words, Shravan gave 140 notes of Rs 500 each, totaling Rs 70,000. The man and woman fled in the car saying that they would bring money.
After the report was registered, SP Prashant Thakur deployed cyber cell and Magarload police to investigate the fraud. The police team visited 200 places from the incident site Mohadi, Dhamtari to Kanker, Kondagaon, Jagdalpur, Dantewada, Geedam, Bijapur and searched more than 500 CCTV footages. Based on their appearance, information was received about the thug couple being around Raipur district. After this, the police arrested the accused Ismail Ali, 46 years, and his wife Fatima Ali, 41 years, residents of Srinagar, Imam Banyan Hashmi Hall, Lajpat Nagar, Delhi. Both 12 pieces of foreign currency, a Mahindra XUV500 vehicle and Rs 30,000 in cash were seized.
