Tight security at Tirunelveli Nellaiappa temple festival, plan to purchase elephant

Tamil Nadu: The Anip Purnima festival is being celebrated with great pomp and devotion this year at the Arulmigu Nellaiappa-Gandhimathi Amman Temple in Tirunelveli. The temple complex and surrounding area are filled with a religious atmosphere, and a large number of devotees are participating in the festivities. The Thirutherottam procession, the main attraction of the festival, will be held on Sunday (June 28), for which the administration has made extensive preparations.
Tamil Nadu’s Hindu Religious and Endowments Minister, C. Ramesh, personally visited the temple on Saturday and thoroughly inspected the festival preparations and security arrangements. He held a meeting with temple administration officials and senior police officers to discuss the security procedures to be followed during the procession. The Minister reviewed all arrangements related to crowd control, traffic management, and the convenience of devotees.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Minister C. Ramesh said that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure a peaceful and safe celebration this year. He stated that the police and temple administration have made extensive security arrangements to prevent any disruption. The minister informed that over 1,500 police and security personnel have been deployed for security.
He stated that special vigilance is being taken in view of the large gathering of devotees during the procession. The temple complex and surrounding areas have been barricaded, and separate entry and exit routes have been designated to control the crowd. CCTV cameras and drones are also being used for surveillance.
The temple administration has made arrangements for drinking water, a first aid station, and resting places for the convenience of devotees. Medical teams and volunteers have also been deployed to deal with emergencies. The police department has implemented a special traffic plan to maintain smooth traffic flow, temporarily diverting some routes.
Minister C. Ramesh also stated that significant steps will be taken to further enhance the grandeur of the Tirunelveli Nellaiappa Temple’s religious traditions. He announced that the necessary process will be initiated to purchase an elephant for the temple. He explained that elephants are an important part of religious processions and traditional events, adding to the grandeur of the festivities.
