Tiruchi: Engineering student commits suicide after alleged sexual harassment

Chennai: Mareeswaran (21), a third-year engineering student at Anna University in Tiruchi, a resident of Mamsapuram near Srivilliputhur, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Mandaiyur while traveling to his college hostel. According to a report in Daily Thanthi, he had reportedly befriended a polytechnic student from Ariyamangalam, Tiruchi, through Facebook. Mareeswaran frequently visited the student.
In a note left behind, he claimed that the student and her friends sexually assaulted him, took videos and photos of him, threatened him, withdrew money from his bank account, and stole his gold bracelet. Tiruchi Railway Police arrived at the scene and sent his body to the Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem. Police seized his phone and note; five polytechnic students have been arrested in connection with the case.
