Tiruvallur: Fishing banned till June 14

Tamil Nadu: District Collector M. Pratap has announced a 61-day ban on sea fishing by power boats and trawlers in Tiruvallur district, from April 15th to June 14th.
Under the Tamil Nadu Marine Fisheries Regulation Act, 1983, the government has been imposing a 61-day ban on sea fishing by power boats and trawlers every year, from April 15th to June 14th, to protect fish resources and to coincide with the fish breeding season in the eastern coastal region of Tamil Nadu. In neighboring Andhra Pradesh, all types of mechanised fishing vessels are prohibited from fishing during the ban period.
Motorised country boats in Tiruvallur district should not enter Andhra Pradesh waters. All fishermen’s cooperative societies should be informed of this.
Therefore, it stated that if fishing is carried out in violation of the ban and law and order problems arise, the respective fishermen’s cooperative societies will be held responsible. Fishermen have been asked to return to shore by 12 midnight Tuesday, before the fishing ban comes into effect on the east coast of Tiruvallur district.
