TN Education Minister: Parents should play equal role as teachers in building society
Madurai: Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi highlighted the role of parents in building a knowledge society. He was speaking during the ‘Petrorai Kondaduvom’ program organized by the Parent-Teacher Association of the School Education Department on Monday. He also honored those who have contributed to the development of government schools across the region.
Saying that he has inspected schools in 124 constituencies, Poyyamozhi said the main objective of the program is to reduce the school dropout rate in the state. He described the Chief Minister Breakfast Scheme as one of the important steps of Chief Minister MK Stalin towards progress. Under this, 17 lakh students of 31,008 schools have benefited.
“After DMK took power, students from 274 government schools have sought admission to institutes like IITs. Highlighting the government school reforms of former CM Kamaraj in 1958, Poyyamozhi said a donation of Rs 51 crore has been collected from Madurai district under the scheme.
Earlier, Minister Poyyamozhi distributed appointment orders to 33 Block Development Officers at the Kalaignar Centenary Library. He also distributed 437 certificates to private schools functioning in Madurai, Dindigul, Theni and Sivagangai during a function at the Velammal Engineering College campus.

Commercial Taxes and Registration Minister P Murthy, District Collector MS Sangeetha, School Education Department Principal Secretary J Kumarakurubaran and other officials were also present at the programme.
