Tomatoes in Delhi at Rs 70 a kg, order from today sitting at home like this

Central government is going to sell tomatoes at cheap prices in Delhi through ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) platform. Quoting ONDC MD T Koshe, the news agency has reported that the sale of cheap tomatoes will start from today.
Nafed, NCCF will sell cheap tomatoes
Sources have said that the government’s agricultural marketing agency National Co-operative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF) and Nafed were already in talks to sell tomatoes through ONDC in Delhi. At present, many online companies like Blinkit, Zepto and BBNow are doing home delivery of tomatoes within Delhi at the rate of Rs 170 to 180 per kg. There has been a tremendous increase in the prices of tomatoes across the country. It has also crossed the price of Rs 200 per kg. Tomatoes bought in bulk by NCCF and Nafed are being sold in the retail market. Earlier their price was Rs.90 per kg, then it became Rs.80 and now it has come down to Rs.70.
Sale of cheap tomatoes started from July 14
In Delhi-NCR, the government started selling cheap tomatoes from July 14. Till July 18, the government has sold 391 tonnes of tomatoes. Along with Delhi, tomato consumption is also high in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The government’s effort is to rapidly increase the arrival of tomatoes in these markets. On the orders of the government, NAFED and NCCF procured fresh tomato crop from the mandis of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra and worked to transport it to high consumption markets. According to the Department of Consumer Affairs, the average price of tomato in the country is Rs 119.29 per kg. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs Ashwini Kumar Choubey said in a statement that new tomato crop has started coming in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, so it can be expected that tomato prices will come down soon.
