Tripura installs rooftop solar plants at DM offices under Solar Sankalp initiative
Tripura: The Tripura government has expanded solar energy beyond rooftops to specific government locations—starting with district magistrate offices across the state—under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s “Solar Sankalp” initiative.
The first installation has begun at the Gomati District Magistrate’s office—a 15-kilowatt grid-connected rooftop solar power plant installed at a cost of ₹8.5 lakh.
Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik will formally inaugurate the plant on March 27 in the presence of Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, TSECL Additional General Manager (Gomti) Nandita Das, and Sanjiv Nandi Majumdar, the state nodal officer for the PM Surya Har Free Electricity Scheme. Speaking to ANI, District Magistrate Rinku Lather said that this initiative demonstrates the “resolve” of both the central and state governments under the larger vision of “One Sun, One Earth.”
He explained that solarizing government buildings has two clear benefits: reduced monthly electricity costs and grid connectivity. A 15 kW plant is expected to provide reliable power 24×7 and significantly reduce electricity bills.
According to TSECL sources, rooftop solar plants with a total capacity of 304 kW will be installed in all eight District Magistrate offices in Tripura, at a total cost of approximately ₹2.43 crore.
The district-wise capacity breakdown is as follows: North Tripura (90 kW), Sepahijala (49 kW), West Tripura (53 kW), South Tripura (35 kW), Dhalai (25 kW), Unakoti (22 kW), Khowai (15 kW), and Gomati (15 kW).
Once operational, these systems are expected to meet a significant portion of each office’s energy needs with clean, renewable power.
TSECL AGM Nandita Das described the Gomti installation as a major step towards sustainable development, and said the DM and office staff expressed happiness and gratitude over the installation of the plant.
