Tripura’s Labour Minister has sought help from the Arunachal Pradesh government to rescue 30 child labourers

Guwahati: Tripura Labour Minister Tinku Roy has formally requested his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart, Nyato Dukam, to intervene to rescue and safely repatriate approximately 30 child labourers from Tripura’s Unakoti district who were allegedly taken to Arunachal Pradesh on false promises of employment.
In a letter to Dukam, Roy stated that the children were taken from the Rangrang tea garden in Unakoti district along with some adult labourers and were subsequently forced to live in inhumane conditions and subjected to abuse. He added that a case has been registered at the Kailashahar police station regarding the incident.
According to Roy, the labourers were assured of fixed wages and employment benefits, but were later deprived of their legal entitlements. Family members of the victims have informed authorities that the children are suffering from physical and mental distress due to the alleged abuse and poor living conditions.
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Roy said that the families are anxiously awaiting the swift and safe return of the labourers and appealed to the Arunachal Pradesh government for immediate intervention.
Citing humanitarian concerns, the Tripura minister urged Dukam to provide all necessary assistance to rescue the labourers as soon as possible and ensure their safe return home.
Roy also underlined that employing children as labourers is strictly prohibited under existing laws and termed the incident a serious violation of human rights and human dignity.
