Turkish airstrikes target energy sectors in Syria

DAMASCUS: Turkish warplanes carried out airstrikes targeting energy facilities in the northeastern Syrian province of al-Hasakah on Saturday night, Syrian state television reported.

The al-Ouda oil field in al-Qahtaniyah town near al-Qamishli was hit by the airstrike, reports Xinhua news agency.

Turkish attacks extended to other oil facilities, including the Saida and Zarbah oil stations, as well as an Agricultural Bank site in al-Qahtaniyah.

Additional attacks occurred at various locations in the city of al-Malikiyah. The attack, which reportedly caused fires in at least two locations, was confirmed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor.

Although the Observatory has confirmed air strikes, there is a lack of information regarding human casualties. The Britain-based monitoring group said Turkish warplanes continued to patrol the skies over the region.

The Turks usually attack areas controlled by Kurdish-led forces in northern Syria. Al-Hasakah is largely controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, which Turkey considers a terrorist group.
