Twist in Mumbai boat tragedy as survivor claims Navy boat driver was in playful mood
In the Mumbai boat capsize between the Navy boat and passenger ferry Neel Kamal a survivor disclosed a shocking statement. He claimed that the driver of the Navy speedboat was “showing off” when the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
The Navy craft was undergoing engine trials and it collided with the ferry boat after losing control. It was carrying passengers from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island, a popular tourist destination.
The passenger identified as Gaurav Gupta was in the ferry boat with his aunt and relatives. He had taken his family for a ferry ride. A vegetable vendor from Nalasopara in adjoining Palghar district, he said that Navy driver was in a playful mood. In fact all the passengers present in the ferry were enjoying the stunts of the driver. This comes against the Navy’s claim of “engine failure” in the speedboat.
“At the time of the collision the Navy driver thought that he could easily pass our ferry without any collision however, things turned ugly and the Mumbai boat tragedy occured. One of the passengers from the speedboat landed in our ferry. We assumed that our ferry is safe but soon it started to sink,” he said.
