Two arrested for posing as Abhishek Banerjee’s fake PA and threatening a railway official
Kolkata (IANS) | The Kolkata Police on Sunday said that it has arrested two men who posed as PAs of Trinamool Congress national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee. Both had threatened a senior railway official. Both were fake. The arrested persons have been identified as Biwas Sarkar and Vishwanath Sarkar. City police sources said the police first arrested Biwas Sarkar from South Kolkata’s Bondel Road area on Saturday evening.
City police sources said that during interrogation he named Biswanath Sarkar, who was arrested the same night from Santaldih in Purulia district.
It is learned that the arrested persons are part of a racket, which is involved in extorting money from people. Biswanath Sarkar had sent a message from his personal email to a senior officer of Eastern Railway for approval of railway tender in favor of a particular entity. The cost of the tender was Rs 5.87 crore.
After the email was sent, city police sources said, Biwas Sarkar reportedly called up the officer. As the personal assistant of Abhishek Banerjee, he threatened the officials with dire consequences if the tender was not passed in favor of that particular institution.
The railway official lodged a complaint at the Hare Street Police Station in Kolkata. The police started investigation and finally both were arrested on Saturday.
