Two arrested for rape in Hailakandi district

Hailakandi. Police arrested two men for allegedly raping a minor girl in Hailakandi district. Police said that the victim girl died in the hospital. Hailakandi district superintendent of police Leena Dole said, “Police have so far arrested two people in connection with the alleged rape incident and the main accused is still absconding.” “Our efforts are on to nab the main accused, Zubair Ahmed Talukdar. The arrested persons are Jabir Ahmed Barbhuiya and Ansar Uddin Mazumdar. We have also seized the vehicle that was used in the alleged crime, Leena Dole said. According to the police, the incident took place on Tuesday, July 4, in a tea garden area of Hailakandi district. “On July 5, a person came to Algapur police station along with a minor girl as her health condition was very serious. We immediately admitted him to Hailakandi Civil Hospital and later referred him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. But the girl died in the hospital. During investigation, we found that the three accused persons took him to a tea garden area towards Cachar. Locals caught them and handed over the minor girl to her school authority, who later handed her over to the family members. We have caught two people. The main accused is still absconding and we have shared his details on social media platforms as well. We are now waiting for the post mortem report to know the facts, said Leena Doli. Meanwhile, locals staged a protest in Hailakandi on Thursday, demanding justice for the victim. Further investigation is on.
