Two arrested in Delhi’s Tis Hazari firing case
New Delhi (IANS). Delhi Police has arrested two lawyers involved in the Tis Hazari court complex firing incident. An official gave this information on Friday.
The lawyers have been identified as Manish Sharma and Lalit Sharma, former vice-presidents of the Delhi Bar Association. A senior police officer said they would be produced before the court.
On Thursday, the court sent on four-day police remand three accused Aman Singh, Ravi Gupta and Sachin Sangwan, who were part of the group of lawyers involved in the Tis Hazari court shootout.
On July 5, two groups of lawyers clashed and opened fire at Tis Hazari Court. A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing a man in a white shirt and black pants firing in the air, with others throwing stones and wooden planks at him.
People mainly in lawyer’s attire can be seen waving sticks and brawling with each other. In another video, bullet casings are seen scattered at the spot.
According to the police, a fight broke out between Bar Association secretary Atul Sharma and senior vice-president Manish Sharma over mutual enmity.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said that after the Tis Hazari firing incident, the police launched an overnight operation to nab the accused.
The DCP said, “Based on the inputs, the police team took technical assistance and launched a search operation in Bhalswa, Swaroop Nagar, Haiderpur, Shalimar Bagh and Vikaspuri areas and succeeded in nabbing Aman Singh, Sachin Sangwan and Ravi Gupta.”
“They belong to a rival group of bar association office-bearers. Three country-made pistols, four live cartridges and two cars have been seized from their possession,” the DCP said.
The official said other lawyers found involved in rioting at Tis Hazari court have also been identified and different teams are working to arrest them.
Meanwhile, the Bar Council of Delhi has suspended the enrollment of Manish and Lalit.
