Two Bangladeshi women in Assam have been instructed to leave the state within 24 hours

Guwahati: The Biswanath district administration in Assam has asked two women identified as Bangladeshi nationals by the Foreigners’ Tribunal to exit India within 24 hours of receiving official notices, officials said on December 22.

The women—Asmull Khatun of Missamari village and Afuja Begum of Bakrapatta village—faced separate proceedings before the Tribunal, which declared them foreigners from Bangladesh at different times.

Following these rulings, Biswanath District Commissioner Lakhinandan Saharia issued expulsion orders under Section 2 of the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950. The orders instructed the two women to leave Assam and India within 24 hours of service, using designated exit routes through Dhubri, Sribhumi or South Salmara–Mankachar.

The administration warned that failure to comply would prompt authorities to initiate further action to remove them from the state. Officials confirmed that the expulsion notices were formally served on December 22.

Earlier, in a similar move, the Nagaon district administration directed 15 individuals declared foreigners to leave the country on December 18.

Officials said these actions reflect the state government’s continued enforcement of Foreigners’ Tribunal verdicts in cases related to illegal immigration
