Two drug smugglers arrested
Doomduma: Dhola police has succeeded in arresting two people accused of drug smuggling. They were also successful in recovering narcotics from his possession during the search conducted in the premises of his residence.
According to local sources, officials of Sadiya police and Dhola police conducted a joint operation in Doomdoma district. The operation was led by Sadiya police area officer Subhash Das and officer in-charge of Dhola police station Debashish Dekari. This operation was conducted in Bormura Miripathar village of Doomduma district.
During this operation, the team was successful in arresting two persons namely Deepjyoti Sonowal aged thirty-eight years and Kamal Jyoti Sonowal aged thirty-four years. Both were arrested from their rented accommodation in Bormura Miripathar village. Upon proper search, a total of 11.5 grams of banned heroin was also recovered from the residence. After the arrest of both, necessary legal action has been taken forward by the authorities.
Based on intelligence inputs, Golaghat Police launched another joint anti-drugs operation with Karbi Anglong Police. During the operation at Khakkarajan check post under Barpathar police station (Karbi Anglong), a Mahindra XUV500 vehicle bearing registration number AS- 01BD/2314 was stopped. During a search of the vehicle, a total of 1.850 kg of suspected morphine was recovered from the spare wheel of the vehicle.
The value of the seized medicines would be around Rs 50 lakh. 92 lakhs. Two people have been arrested in this connection. They are Akum Chang (59 years), s/o Latar Thongbong, R/o Rongmei Colony, PS: East PS, Dimapur, Nagaland, Ongbau Chang (45 years), s/o Cholen Chang, R/o Borlengri, Block 1, PS: Khatkhati, Dist: Karbi. Anglong. The operation was conducted by Additional SP (Crime), Golaghat along with personnel of SDPO, Bokajan, OC Golaghat PS and OC Barpathar PS (KA). A case has been registered. Further investigation is ongoing.
