Two drug smugglers arrested in Afghanistan
Kabul: Two drug smugglers were arrested in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province and more than 42 kilograms of opium was recovered from their possession, the provincial police office said in a statement on Sunday.
In the first operation carried out in the provincial capital Faizabad city, police arrested a drug dealer on Saturday and recovered 24.5 kilograms of opium from his belongings, reports Xinhua news agency.
In a similar operation against drug smugglers in Badakhshan province, police arrested a drug smuggler in Argo district on the same day and recovered about 18.38 kilograms of opium from his possession, the statement said. Both the arrested drug dealers were Afghans.
Similarly, police discovered and destroyed a drug processing lab in Dilaram district of western Nimroz province a week ago.
Afghanistan’s caretaker government banned opium cultivation, drug processing and drug trafficking in April 2022 and since then the administration has been struggling to free Afghanistan from the drug threat.
