Union Sports Ministry approves preparation camp for Neeraj Chopra in Switzerland
New Delhi (IANS). The government approved a 12-day training stint in Switzerland for Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, soon after his return from Europe after winning gold at the World Championships in Budapest and silver at the Zurich Diamond League.
The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has approved Chopra to attend a 12-day training camp in Maglingen, Switzerland, before participating in the Diamond League 2023 Finals to be held in Eugene, USA this September.
A total of Rs 5.89 lakh has been sanctioned for the preparation camp to be organized between September 1 and 12.
Neeraj recorded a best throw of 85.71 meters and finished second in the Diamond League event in Zurich on Thursday.
Meanwhile, long-distance runner Parul Chaudhary, who clocked a national record timing of 9:15.31 seconds in the women’s 3000m steeplechase in Budapest to clinch the Paris Olympics quota, has also been included in the Sports Ministry’s TOPS Core Group. And Sports gave this information in a release on Friday.
The Mission Olympic Cell also approved financial assistance for table tennis star Sharath Kamal to participate in various events, purchase equipment and hire personal coach Chris Pfeiffer in the run up to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Star badminton doubles players Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have also been provided assistance by masseur Nishant Nagpuri, who will accompany them at the China Open 2023 to be held from September 5 to 10.
