Protests in Arunachal’s Ruksin, silicon factory trucks stopped

Guwahati: The situation in the Ruksin area of East Siang district is reported to be peaceful, with both the local administration and protesters maintaining calm amid the ongoing dispute over a silicon factory at the Industrial Growth Center in Niglok.
Acting on an order from the Guwahati High Court, the East Siang district administration attempted to move stranded trucks to the silicon factory on Sunday. However, this attempt was thwarted by widespread protests from local villagers. The trucks, loaded with goods, which were eventually pushed back after strong public opposition, remain stranded at the Ruksin headquarters.
Tensions briefly escalated on the Ngorlung section of the MMJ (Mirem-Mikong-Jonai) Road, where police and protesters clashed. Following this, the administration removed the trucks and lifted security from the area.
District administration officials stated that no further talks would be held with the protesting villagers on the matter.
Ruksin ADC Kiran Ningo said on Tuesday, “Our officials are currently busy preparing for the Statehood Day celebrations on February 20th. After the event, we will formulate a strategy to ensure uninterrupted movement of goods and machinery to the silicon factory, as directed by the High Court.”
Meanwhile, the local administration cleared the blockades on the Ngorlung section of the MMJ Road on Tuesday morning, deployed Public Works Department personnel and machinery, and reopened the road for traffic.
Despite all this, the protesting villagers remain steadfast in their opposition to the silicon factory and continue to oppose its operation.
