Used to pressure Hindu pilgrims to convert, accused arrested
Bengaluru: Karnataka Police has arrested a person who used to target Hindu pilgrims in Bellary district and allegedly tried to convert them. Police are also looking for the second accused in this case. The arrested person has been identified as 44-year-old Hussain Basha, while his partner 24-year-old Saibaba is absconding. Both the accused are residents of Tekkala Pattana area of the district.
According to the police, on July 18, Hussain Basha and Saibaba targeted devotees going towards the Hindu pilgrimage site ‘Mantralaya’. It is alleged that the accused stopped the Hindu devotees walking with saffron flags in their hands and started preaching them about Islam. Also, pressure was put on them to leave Hinduism.
A Hindu devotee Gadilingappa lodged a complaint in the Tekkalakot police station regarding the matter. Along with this, a video clip of the conversion attempt was also given to the police. Hindu devotees expressed concern over the incident. The police have started investigation.
