VASCO: Mormugao civic body warns vendors encroaching on roads
VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) inspected the market area in the port city and warned vendors to get rid of encroachments created by them.
The civic body said they received several complaints from citizens regarding encroachment on the roads by shopkeepers and vendors and warned them to respect the law and refrain from disrupting the smooth flow of traffic. Accordingly, on Thursday, MMC Chairman Girish Borkar, Market Committee Chairman Prajay Mayekar, Narayan Borkar and Municipal Corporation inspectors and staff visited the market and appealed to the vendors to do business without encroachment.
“If the sellers do not listen despite appeals, they will be penalized and the goods will be confiscated,” the chairperson warned.
MMC chairperson Borkar appealed to vendors selling vegetables, fruits and other items to conduct their business without creating public nuisance.
Earlier, MMC had issued a warning to the vendors, but the vendors remained adamant and refused to move from the roadside. Therefore, Borkar has asked the civil inspectors to take strict action against those violating the law.
Mayekar appealed to the vendors to cooperate with the MMC staff and do their business at the designated places.
