Village temple priests’ conference today: CM to attend

Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will attend a conference of village temple priests in Mylapore, Chennai, on Saturday and provide incentives and welfare assistance.
The Hindu Religious Endowments Department is implementing a scheme to provide financial assistance for the renovation of temples in areas inhabited by Adi Dravidar and tribal communities and to protect the well-being of village temple priests who are not under administrative control. After M.K. Stalin became Chief Minister in 2021, financial assistance for the renovation of temples in areas inhabited by Adi Dravidar and tribal communities was increased from ₹1 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh. To date, ₹106.25 crore has been provided as financial assistance to 5,000 temples, and renovation work is underway. Additionally, the pension for village temple priests has been increased to ₹4,000. Following this, the Village Temple Priests Welfare Board was formed, and priests and their families were provided with welfare assistance such as educational scholarships, marriage scholarships, family welfare funds, pensions, and family pensions.
In this context, a Village Temple Priests Conference will be held in Mylapore, Chennai on Saturday. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will participate, launching a scheme to provide ₹1,500 per month to village temple priests, and delivering speeches on various welfare schemes.
Hindu Religious and Endowments Minister P.K. Sekhar Babu, Athena Perumakkal, Chennai Corporation Mayor R. Priya, and members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly are reportedly expected to attend the ceremony.
