Violation of election code of conduct: Shiromani Akali Dal

Punjab: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded a judicial inquiry into the functioning of the State Election Commission (SEC) and the Punjab Police, alleging that they remained silent spectators while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers committed gross violations of the model code of conduct during the district council and block committee elections in the state. SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said that the SAD would pursue legal action in the matter and would also approach the Governor, appealing to him to take action.
Earlier, the SAD had submitted a written complaint to the SEC, citing several incidents “where AAP candidates and their supporters threw caution to the wind and resorted to all sorts of tactics to hijack the elections.” Dr. Cheema stated that several SAD workers were injured in Kazikot (Tarn Taran), Talwandi Dasaundha Singh (Majitha), Naushera Majh Singh (Batala), Kangra (Malout), Madhir (Gidderbaha), and Babania.
