Violence broke out in the conference of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, clash with police
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (ANI): A wave of panic and tension struck Dir Bala district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) when a clash broke out between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and police during a party conference, as per reports. ARY News reports. Saturday.
The unrest unfolded in Sahibabad area of Upper Dir district, where PTI workers were gathering for a conference. However, the district administration had blocked the roads leading to the conference venue, citing Section 144, which prohibits the gathering of more than five people.
According to ARY News report, the confrontation escalated when police attempted to stop PTI workers in Chukiatan, resulting in workers pelting stones at law enforcement officials.
Amid the clash, a PTI worker and a policeman sustained bullet injuries and were immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Addressing the conference, PTI’s Omar Ayub Khan alleged that the police opened fire on PTI workers attending the conference. Expressing his concern, he said, ‘Pakistan Election Commission should tell whether it is busy in conducting rigged elections?’
A day earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had urged the caretaker government to ensure a level playing field for all political parties in preparation for the upcoming general elections 2024.
The Additional Director General of ECP, in a letter, directed the Principal Secretary to the Caretaker Prime Minister and all provincial Chief Secretaries to address the concerns raised by a political party regarding the alleged lack of fair play and level playing field.
Party leaders demanded an end to discrimination while demanding equal opportunities for election campaigns.
The letter said the political party leaders demanded a level playing field with others by allowing them to conduct election campaigns and demanded an end to non-discrimination from the government, ARY News reported. (ANI)
