VPP urges Election Commission to take action against proxy voting
The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Tuesday lodged a complaint against the possibility of proxy voting in the Jaintia Hills area during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 19. In a letter to Chief Electoral Officer Dr BDR Tiwari, VPP election agent Danny Langsteigh said, “…with grave concern I would like to state that, as per information received by party workers, there is every possibility that an attempt Will be done.” The process of free and fair conduct of elections in the State, especially in Jaintia Hills districts, may be interfered with by anti-social elements with vested interests. If the polling officers are not alert and committed to the task of ensuring free and fair elections, there is a possibility of proxy voting,” he said in the complaint. “…the party urges you to take necessary steps to ensure that That free and fair elections are not disrupted and voters can cast their votes without any fear and proxy voting should never happen.” ,
