Two full lives were lost in the air in a moment of excitement. This caused great sorrow in both families. Pothuraj Pooja (16), daughter of Pothuraj Alivel, from Medipalli village in Yacharam mandal of Rangaredda district, is studying in the second year of Intermediate at Karthikeya College in Ibrahimpatnam. Pooja’s father died sixteen years ago and since then she has been raising her son and daughter with her mother Alivel. Siddhagoni Mahesh (20), son of Siddhagoni Yadayya from the same village, have been in love with each other for the last four to five months. After the matter came to light in both the families, they have been prevented from meeting each other for the last few days.

Recently, Mahesh tried to commit suicide by consuming insecticide. He survived after receiving treatment in the hospital for a few days. When Pooja came to know that Mahesh had consumed insecticide, she also tried to commit suicide by consuming insecticide. She also survived. Meanwhile, last Monday, Mahesh called Pooja’s grandfather Narayya again and said, “Love me and marry me or I will commit suicide.” Pooja told her mother, Alivel, about this.

Pooja had been under mental stress since Mahesh called. Worried that her boyfriend might commit suicide, she committed suicide by hanging herself at 8 am on Tuesday when no one was home. There was a brief panic in the village after Pooja’s death. With the police’s intervention, Pooja’s body was taken to Ibrahimpatnam morgue and a postmortem was conducted. The body was brought back in the evening and buried.

Mahesh committed suicide by pouring petrol on himself and setting himself on fire in Hayat Nagar area on Wednesday after learning that Pooja had committed suicide. With this, there is a deep tragedy in Medipalli village as both Pooja and Mahesh committed suicide. Both the families are mourning. The case is under investigation to this extent.
