Wabag bags Rs 700 crore order to set up wastewater treatment plant
CHENNAI Chennai: Water treatment company VA Tech Wabag has received a design, build order funded by the European Investment Bank and Germany-based Creditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) development bank for setting up two wastewater treatment plants worth 78 million euros (around Rs 700 crore) in Zambia. The order has been received from Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company, Zambia, which also marks VA Tech Wabag’s entry into African countries. Under this design, build, operate contract, Wabag will execute the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of two advanced wastewater treatment plants – 54 MLD and 19 MLD – a company statement said on Friday. The EPC phase will last for 36 months and 24 months will be taken for operation and maintenance of the project to ensure sustainable performance and efficiency. Most of the energy requirements of both plants will be met sustainably through green energy sources using a combination of biogas and solar power.

Over the past three decades, Wabag has successfully designed and built over 1,500 municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment plants around the world, the company said.
