Wadiyar unhappy with installation of statue of late saint in Gun House Circle
Mysuru: Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, a member of the erstwhile royal family, has expressed dismay over the installation of the statue of late Suttur Math saint Shivaratri Rajendra Swamy at Gun House Circle in Mysore. Wadiyar’s press note said: “I learned how to place a statue secretly in the afternoon, using a crane at Gun House Circle, Mysore. It is very unfortunate that an organization that claims to be a rational organization is displaying such arrogance. “I support the sentiments of the community members who have consistently opposed the installation of the statue at that location.” (Thus) It may be recalled that the High Court had on September 7, 2021, quashed the order allowing installation of the statue of Sri Shivaratri Rajendra Swamy in the circle near the Gun House in Mysore city. The court said that the permission given in 2017 had violated the Supreme Court. order. A division bench of then Acting Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum had said that it was clear that the place where the statue is proposed to be installed is one of the busiest areas of Mysore city. The court said that the map and other documents submitted by the state government show that six roads connect the plaza and the circle is certainly part of the road. “The Supreme Court has clearly directed state governments not to grant any permission to install statues or construct structures on public roads. Therefore, neither the question of granting permission to install the statue nor the resolution passed by the Mysuru City Corporation to install the statue arises. In the opinion of this court, neither the petitioner nor any other person can install the statue in any enclosure or island,” the court had said. The PIL was filed by All India Kshatriya Mahasabha. The petitioner had argued that though his application to install the statue of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja (SDNR) Wadiyar was rejected citing the Supreme Court order, the authorities allowed the installation of the statue of Sri Shivaratri Rajendra Swamy. Was. There have been protests against installing the statue in that particular circle since 2017, during Siddaramaiah’s previous tenure as chief minister. Members of Armane Ulisei Horata Samiti protested on August 29, 2017, demanding the installation of SDNR Wadiyar’s statue at Gun House Circle in place of the proposed statue of late Suttur saint Shivaratri Rajendra Swamy. He said that he has repeatedly appealed to the state government to ignore the installation of SDNR Wadiyar statue. He said that the saint’s statue could be installed at some other suitable place and this angered the then Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who ignored his prayers and performed ‘bhoomi puja’ for the saint’s statue. It may be noted that Pramoda Devi Wadiyar had written to the Suttur Math in 2017 and 2021 seeking cooperation in installing the statue of SDNR Wadiyar near the gun house, as the Math can install the statue of the late saint at some other suitable place . Place. Suttur Math authorities clarified that they had no role in the installation of the statue and it was done by devotees of the late saint.
