Welcoming the decision of Gujarat High Court, BJP said – Rahul Gandhi habitual criminal
New Delhi (IANS). Welcoming the Gujarat High Court’s decision to dismiss Rahul Gandhi’s plea in the Modi surname defamation case, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that Rahul Gandhi is a habitual offender in defamation cases.
Talking to the media at the BJP headquarters, Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Rahul Gandhi had made a comment in the 2019 elections that why all thieves have Modi as their surname. Most of the backward and extremely backward people have the Modi surname across the country. This was a grossly objectionable comment and by law Rahul Gandhi should have apologized for his mistake. But, he did not apologise. The lower court sentenced him to 2 years, against which he went to the sessions court. The Sessions Court granted him bail, but did not stay the conviction, and as a result, as per the rules, his membership of Parliament also ended.
Ravi Shankar Prasad further said that Rahul Gandhi went to the Gujarat High Court against the court’s decision and his only effort was to stay his conviction. But, today the Gujarat High Court has rejected his petition. Describing today’s decision of the Gujarat High Court as welcome, the BJP leader said that the court said that 10 cases are going on against him, so there is no reasonable ground to stay the conviction. He said that Rahul Gandhi is a habitual offender in the matter of defamation. He keeps on criticizing the country, the constitutional institutions, the media, the army, even the judiciary, defaming them. There are 7-8 cases of defamation going on against him.
He said that now they are talking about going to the Supreme Court, it is their right, go to the Supreme Court. Taking a dig at the Congress, Prasad said that Rahul Gandhi is their leader, so why doesn’t he control his leader? If he had apologized when given a chance by the trial court in the case of OBC, then this situation would not have happened today. Instead of apologizing, he even insulted Veer Savarkar. After losing from Amethi, Rahul Gandhi has started commenting on that too. If we lose from Wayanad, we will start criticizing there too. If Rahul Gandhi understands that it is his right to insult people, then the aggrieved people also have the right to go to court and let the law take action against them. They have a sense of arrogance, they don’t do homework, they go to Tukde Tukde gang in JNU.
Targeting the Congress, Prasad further said that now sponsored comments can come from the Congress that why the court gave such a harsh punishment? So, our answer is why did Rahul Gandhi commit such a harsh offense? Congress is also insulting the court. It is the nature of Congress to insult OBCs. Reacting to the statement of Congress to come on the road, Ravi Shankar Prasad said that come on the road, BJP is ready to fight the road battle too, because the blessings of the people of the country are with the Modi government. Responding to a question on when the elections would be held in Wayanad, he said that it would be decided by the Election Commission.
