West Bengal News: Scope of coaching scheme extended

West Bengal. The Mamata Banerjee government on Tuesday decided that her Yogya Shree scheme for students will now expand its scope to include beneficiaries from minorities, OBCs and general categories, so that more and more students from Bengal can get complimentary training for engineering and medical courses.

The chief minister made the announcement in a statement issued on X.

“We are proud that our “Yogya Shree” scheme, which we started to provide completely free training to SC/ST students of the state for admission to engineering and medical courses, is continuously giving more and more benefits for our SC/ST boys and girls. Now we will also include boys and girls from minority, OBC and general categories in this scheme,” she wrote.

This year, Yogya Shree trainees secured 23 ranks in JEE (Advanced) – which includes 13 IIT seats – 75 ranks in JEE (Main), 432 ranks in WBJEE and 110 ranks in NEET, Mamata said.

“These achievements in these tough competitive exams are even better than the results of previous years,” she wrote. “Keeping in view the importance of this important training support for our underprivileged boys and girls, we have increased the number of centres in the state to 50 and the number of our supported trainees to 2000 and training will be given from Class XI for better preparation,” she added. The scheme was launched by the chief minister in January at an event in the city. Under this, students get 300 hours of training in six months, which includes classes thrice a week. “Our boys and girls from weaker sections become engineers and doctors in large numbers. We will now include students from minority, OBC and general categories in this scheme as well,” Mamata wrote. “Appreciate them!”
