What did he do for his constituency? Uthiramerur MLA

Tamil Nadu: K. Sundar, who has won the Uthiramerur seat in the Kanchipuram district five times and served as a Council Member, served continuously for 14 years as the DMK Secretary for the Kanchipuram South District.

He received commendation from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for never missing a single day whenever the Legislative Assembly was in session, thereby recording 100 percent attendance. Speaking to a reporter from Dinamani, he outlined the promises he made and the projects he implemented as an MLA over the past five years:

What developmental works have been undertaken in the Uthiramerur constituency?

The Uthiramerur Panchayat Union—a division long demanded by the people of this constituency—has been bifurcated into two administrative units for greater efficiency and is now fully operational. Within this constituency, over 200 additional classrooms have been constructed across various institutions, including the Government Vocational Training School, the Sub-Registrar’s Office, government schools, over 100 Anganwadi centers, Fair Price Shops, and bus shelters. The construction of a new court complex is nearing completion and is scheduled to be inaugurated shortly. What measures have you taken regarding roads and drinking water facilities?

We have completed the construction of check dams (water-retention structures) in the villages of Silambakkam, Tholloli, and Puttali, and these have been dedicated for public use. The reconstruction work on the Venkachery check dam is currently in progress. Work is underway to supply drinking water from the Palar River to the villages of Annathur, Sirupinayur, Sithalakavur, and Thandrai; these drinking water facilities will be made available very soon. Additionally, drinking water facilities have already been provided from the Cheyyar River to Visur village.

An elevated bridge is being constructed across the Cheyyar River between Ilayan Vellore and Neyyadu Bhagam, and 70 percent of the construction work has already been completed. Construction work on the high-level bridge over the Cheyyar River at Perugar, located on the Vandavasi route, has been completed and the bridge has been opened for traffic. The construction of the bypass road in Walajabad has been finished, and it has been operational since this year. Work on the bypass road in Uthiramerur has commenced and is proceeding at full pace; consequently, it too is expected to become operational within this year. The foundation stone for the construction of a high-level bridge between Walajabad and Avalur has been laid, and construction work has begun. A high-level bridge has been constructed over the Palar River between Sevilimedu and Punjai Arasan Thangal. Furthermore, the construction of a new, modern building within the Uthiramerur Government Hospital complex—at a cost of ₹10 crore—has been completed and has also been inaugurated. At the Salavakkam Government Hospital, the construction of a building housing an accident treatment unit and 50 additional beds is now nearing completion.

After serving as a Council Member for five consecutive years, is there anything you were unable to accomplish for your constituency?

We had decided to relocate the Uthiramerur bus stand to a different site, as the current location suffers from a lack of space. Due to various obstacles, it was not possible to implement this plan over the past five years. Currently, a 6-acre plot of land at Vedapalayam, situated along the Uthiramerur bypass road, has been selected for this purpose. The new bus stand will be constructed shortly. Have you ever wondered why—despite serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for five years—you were not appointed as a Minister?

The Chief Minister announced a scheme titled ‘Chief in Your Constituency.’ Under this scheme, he requested every Council Member to submit a written list of 10 specific demands for their respective constituencies. To facilitate the fulfillment of these demands, he appointed three committees. The demands were categorized into two groups: those that could be fulfilled, and those that could not be fulfilled immediately. We have fulfilled many of those demands that were not immediately feasible to meet, and have dedicated them to the public. This is a monumental achievement. As a minister, I have accomplished everything that I was required to do for the people.
