Will Charandas Mahant be able to break Sakthi’s anti-incumbency wave?
Raipur. Speaker of Chhattisgarh Assembly and Congress candidate from Sakti assembly constituency Charandas Mahanta faces the challenge of breaking the myth in the assembly elections.
In the four elections held after the formation of the state, the people here have changed their leadership party every five years with their votes. Congress has once again fielded Assembly Speaker Mahant from Sakti assembly seat of the state and here he is facing competition from BJP’s Khilwan Sahu.
Mahant is counted among the prominent Congress leaders here. In his political career so far, he has been a Lok Sabha MP thrice and MLA four times. This is his fifth election as an MLA and second assembly election after the formation of Chhattisgarh state. After the formation of the state, four assembly elections were held and in all these elections the public continued the process of change.
Talking about the 2003 assembly elections, BJP’s Medharam Sahu won this election and when the elections were held in 2008, Congress’s Saroj Manharan Rathore won. Similarly, there was a change again in the 2013 elections and BJP’s Khilavan Sahu was successful in registering victory. When the elections of 2018 came, the people here made a change and handed over their leadership to Charan Das Mahant.
Now there are elections again, that is why the question is arising whether Charandas Mahant will be successful in breaking the myth created regarding this assembly constituency? Political analysts believe that the resentment of some leaders within the party is becoming a big challenge for Charandas Mahant in Sakti assembly constituency. If this resentment continues then the path to victory will become difficult for Mahant and if he succeeds in convincing his own people then the path to victory will be easy.
