Woman arrested in child selling racket case in Tamil Nadu
Chennai. Tamil Nadu Police arrested a woman in Namakkal district on Tuesday. The sale of female newborn was part of the racket.
The woman has been identified as Balmani. The police had busted the racket on October 15 and arrested Dr A of Tiruchengodu government hospital. Anuradha was arrested. The police have also arrested T. Logambal, an associate of the doctor.
Police said that Logambal was forcing couples to sell their children to childless couples. At the same time, seven newborns have been sold so far.
Tiruchenogadu police have registered a case under sections 120 (B) 370 (4) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 81 and 87 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
Police officials told media persons that Logambal used to work as a broker while selling babies. During interrogation, Logambal had told the police about Balamani’s role in the racket, after which he was also arrested.
