Woman crushed by wild elephant, dies painfully

Jashpur. The menace of wild elephants is increasing in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. Where incidents of attacks on people by wild elephants are continuously coming to light. Late on Wednesday evening, an elephant killed a woman passerby on the main road in Bagicha forest area, during which two people including a disabled person riding on a tricycle had a narrow escape. Forest staff ranger Ashok Singh, who reached the spot after receiving information about this incident, said that the body of the deceased woman has been recovered and handed over to her family. Manmohan Korwa, an eyewitness, told that he was going from Maini to Samarbar with his sister-in-law Jayanti Korwa.

Then suddenly an elephant came and pulled Jayanti (age 45 years) who was pushing my tricycle, picked her up in his trunk and threw her, causing her death on the spot. Another associate of Manmohan, Rambihari Korwa, saved his life by running away from the spot. It is noteworthy that human-elephant conflict in the northern part of Chhattisgarh has been a matter of concern for the last decade. This danger is being seen mainly in Surguja, Jashpur, Raigarh, Korba, Surajpur and Balrampur districts.
